Homestead Exemption

The Louisiana homestead exemption is a tax exemption on the first $75,000 of the value of a person’s home. This exemption applies to all homeowners. No matter how many houses are owned, only one homestead exemption can be claimed, which is a maximum of $7,500 of assessed value.

Special Assessment Level Freeze

A Special Assessment Level Freeze applies to the homestead of persons who are 65 years of age and older or permanently disabled, and whose adjusted gross income is $100,000 or less. The level may change from year to year, so it is advisable to check with your assessor’s office to determine whether you qualify. This special assessment will freeze the assessed value of the homestead for as long as the applicant owns and resides in the home, and income does not exceed the maximum allowed.
